A message from the co-facilitators of the May 26th UUMFE Community Read:

It’s time to celebrate!

UU Ministry for Earth’s first annual Community Read, What If We Get It Right: Visions of Climate Futures by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, is drawing to a close. If you’ve joined us at any point along the way, we hope you’ll attend next Tuesday, May 26th, for our final celebration!

We look forward to seeing you on Zoom next Tuesday, May 26th, at 7:45 EDT/4:45 PDT! You’re invited to join us a few minutes early for our pre-gathering arrival music at 7:40 ET/4:40 PT, selected from Dr. Ayanna’s “WIWGIR?” playlist.

Read these chapters

  • “A Note on Hope”
  • “An Ocean of Answers” with Bren Smith
  • “To Be of Use” by Marge Piercy
  • “Climate Oath” with Oana Stǎescu
  • “The Joyous Work”
  • “Away from the Brink”

Questions from the WIWGIR Reading Guide

  • What is your take on hope in the context of climate change?
  • Having read the whole book, can you describe what “getting it right,” or elements of it, would be like for you?
  • Where/how can you imagine yourself as a part of getting it right on climate?
  • How are you drawn to encourage others to find their roles in climate action?

Prepare for our Session

  • Print a copy of the Climate Action Venn Diagram.
  • Arrange your space comfortably and free from distractions. Maybe that means steeping a cup of tea, having a blanket in your lap, or ensuring that your physical needs are tended to prior to our gathering.
  • Bring a little treat to enjoy, to liven the mood.
  • Reflect on the arc of your year – what has uplifted you about this year’s Community Read? What would you like to experience again? What would you change if you could? Help us dream about the future Community Read, coming up in the fall of 2026!
