2026 Earth Day – “Sentience Surrounds Us”
April 22, 2026
Human beings often believe that our emotions and intelligence uniquely set us apart from nature, yet this could not be further from the truth. In fact, it is because we are part of nature that we sense, feel, and think. The natural world is alive, vibrant, and buzzing with multiple intelligences – some of them different or beyond our human capabilities. Science confirms what ancient wisdom already knew: Earth is full of creatures who are both sentient (capable of deep feeling) and sapient (capable of complex thinking). Join UU Ministry for Earth for an Earth Day worship ritual that celebrates the sentience (and sapience) that surrounds us, in loving memory of Dr. Jane Goodall. 2025 Winter Solstice – “Blanketed in Beauty: Honoring the Gifts of the Darkness”
December 21, 2025
Winter solstice offers an opportunity to pause at a pinnacle, honoring Earth’s longest night. For many moons leading up to this darkest moment, trees have been baring themselves of their leaves, offering a blanket to the Earth below. How can we as humans enter into the energy of this sacred time, using it as medicine, and aligning with the season’s offerings?
In this winter solstice service, we honored the energy and teachings of Earth’s darkest time of year, which encourages us to rest and seek nourishment in the sacred dark. View the Order of Service and speaker information here.
On April 22, 2025, we celebrated Earth Day with a special worship service. As Unitarian Universalists, we are positioned to be faith leaders at this critical time in our country’s history. And it can feel overwhelming. Where do we start? We run the risk of becoming quick to act without listening to each other and the communities most impacted by climate disruption.
In this Earth Day service, we hoped to help deepen practices that put Love at the center of our climate justice work. Not to avoid acting, but to prepare us for action. Here is the Order of Service.
On December 19, 2024, we celebrated the Winter Solstice. UU Ministry for Earth (UUMFE) partnered with the UU Service Committee (UUSC) and UU College of Social Justice (UUCSJ) to bring you worship and stories from partners in Kiribati where climate justice is culture justice and disability justice.
Our guest preacher was Rev. Manish Mishra-Marzetti, UUSC Board of Trustees Co-Chair and Senior Minister of the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Half of our collected donations went to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center.
