UUMFE’s Climate Justice Movement Chaplaincy Intern, Chelsea McCoy, is a seminarian with lived experience in social movements as a Black woman, and this internship is helping her train to offer that wisdom in the form of interfaith spiritual care to the broader community.

Chelsea is available to meet with folks 1-on-1 as well as in small group settings, such as with a congregation’s Green Team. Click here to schedule time on her Calendly.

Note from Chelsea

“Movement chaplaincy is an opportunity for me to provide spiritual support, presence, and guidance pertaining to anything social justice oriented. Experiencing climate anxiety? I can support with that. Worrying about the state of the world adding weight to your shoulders? I can support with that. Want to increase your understanding and awareness of different social justice issues? I can support with that too!”

Simply put, Climate Justice Movement Chaplaincy provides spiritual and emotional support to people who are affected by climate change (that includes all of us!) or engaged in justice work. UU Ministry for Earth movement chaplains help you:

  • articulate your faith reasons for acting for climate justice
  • prepare for the action with tools to harmonize your bodies and spirits (when we are tense, our effectiveness is diminished)
  • process your anxiety and grief around climate change
  • sustain your advocacy and activism by providing support and care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—during and after the action or meeting

It is increasingly clear that there is an emotional and spiritual cost of participating in the enduring work for justice. The climate crisis, in particular, creates grief, fear and anxiety. Climate Justice Movement Chaplaincy offers the opportunity to debrief, process, and restore.
