In order to uplift Sun Day events being offered in UU communities, we will be sharing events on our social media as we receive requests. If you have a Sun Day event you would like us to promote, please email comms@uumfe.org no later than 8am CST on Friday, September 19.

As an expression of interfaith solidarity and ecological urgency, Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth will join thousands of faith communities across the globe in the Faiths 4 Climate Justice: Sun Day mobilization from September 19–21.

Sun Day is a weekend of action in the US where faith communities demand an end to fossil fuel handouts, investment in a just energy future, and policies that uphold dignity and equity for all. Congregations and organizations all over the globe will host public actions, light their sanctuaries green, and lead services as part of a weekend of sacred climate justice events worldwide.

“In times of extreme uncertainty and tension, faith is what helps us keep moving forward, telling us to act in line with our values,” says UUMFE Communications Coordinator Audrey McCann. “Sun Day is an opportunity for people of faith to work together in our calls for legislation and community action that take the climate crisis seriously.”

Examples of planned local events near you might include:
Green lighting of houses of worship to symbolize hope and commitment
Interfaith climate vigils and prayer walks
Sacred music performances and community calls to action
Educational workshops and opportunities for collective action

Faiths 4 Climate Justice: Sun Day is coordinated by GreenFaith, a global, multi-faith climate justice organization. The campaign’s theme—“Shine a Light for Climate Justice”—calls on faith communities to illuminate the path toward a just, sustainable future.
