Dear UUMFE Community,

It is with sadness and grace that we announce the resignation of our Executive Director, Mary Ellen Morgan. Mary Ellen’s time with us was brief, but meaningful. UUMFE is grateful for Mary Ellen’s passion for Earth Justice and her alignment with UUMFE’s vision to care for people and the planet.

While any leadership change brings challenges, we celebrate that this decision was amicable and handled with deep, relational care. We have faith that UUMFE will continue to chart a new way forward with love at the center, as our Shared UU Values inspire us to do.

Where do we go from here? Many of you might be wondering what our hiring plan will be. Our board is holding this decision mindfully, and with the care that it deserves. If you feel you might be a good fit for our team—whether it be as a board member, a contractor for a specific project, or in a more substantial leadership position—we welcome you to reach out to us with a resume and letter of interest. While we have not yet established a hiring timeline, we are leaning into trust, and welcome you to connect with us if you believe there might be alignment.

More immediately, come find us this June at our booth at the GA in Baltimore and during the Hill Day in D.C.! We hope to connect with you there. UUMFE is joining forces with the UU Service Committee (UUSC) and Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ) for Hill Day. We will be offering Movement Chaplaincy to provide support and care as activists navigate conversations with representatives and the political realities we each face. You can learn more about the 2025 Hill Day here.

In the words of climate activist and author Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson: “Giving up on our future is not an option. We all have a stake in the well-being of our planet. Now, more than ever, we need everyone doing something, anything, to protect as much life on Earth as we can.”

I look forward to the future of UUMFE, and to your part in it.

With kindness,

Rev. Lauren Spivey Levwood, they/she
