FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How do I get a copy of “What If We Get It Right?”
“What If We Get It Right?” is sold by most major booksellers. If you’d like to purchase your own hard copy, we encourage you to support your local bookstore through Bookshop. Libro.fm is a great option for those who would like to purchase an audiobook version.
Some of our UUMFE folx have also told us that they’ve successfully requested copies be purchased by their local libraries, which is another wonderful option that is not only affordable, but will help put WIWGIR into the arms of other future readers. If you possess a library card, you could also use an online source like Libby to read an electronic or listen to an audio version of the book.
What’s better: print or audio version?
Printed Book: The printed version of WIWGIR is beautiful and engaging, containing elements such as the author’s own underlining and other visual images. Other benefits of owning a hard copy include the ability to take notes in the margin, place the book on a home altar, carry it with you into nature, read aloud from it at a dinner table, or share it with a friend.
Audiobook: The audio version of WIWGIR is read by the author, allowing an embodied transmission of Dr. Johnson’s tone and inflection. It also includes the voices of the people who Dr. Johnson interviews, as well as music and other creative elements woven throughout.
Our suggestion: The best of both worlds! Download the audiobook on your favorite platform to hear the author’s voice, and dovetail that with reading the hard copy in order to hold the book in your hands and more deeply absorb the material.
Why this book at this time?
UUMFE was inspired to choose WIWGIR because of so many reasons. The key and core reason for this book is our belief that Dr. Ayanna Elizabeth Johnson’s message is medicine for our time. Dr. Johnson’s book invites us to “Meet the Moment,” to borrow a phrase from the 2025 UUA General Assembly, with hope, fortitude, and resilience, dreaming the world we wish for into being. In a time of climate chaos and increasing global environmental despair, what if we choose to believe that we can persevere? From this vantage point, WIWGIR leads us into the future with clarity, focus, connection, creativity, and even… Joy.
Why a UUMFE Community Read?
UUMFE has been engaged in a collective visioning process for the better part of 2025, dreaming of a revitalized future for our organization. No longer a fledgling, grassroots movement, UUMFE has proven its tenure and traction in the UU milieu, but we know that we must continue to reinvent ourselves in order to remain exciting, engaging, and relevant. In order to support you, our UUMFE community, and to more fully BE UUMFE, we are exploring and expanding in ways that we believe our greater UU community needs. UUMFE is akin to a far-reaching UU congregation, spread across cities, states, and countries, made up of UU Climate Justice advocates and UU’s with Earth-centered spiritual practices at the core of who they are. We believe that a UUMFE Community Read will foster connection, conversation, and that which is in the name: community, so that we might galvanize our forces to create traction and sustain our spirits for the Earth-bound and Climate Justice journey.
Do I have to attend all 9 sessions?
The short answer is NO, you do not have to attend all 9 sessions. You may choose to drop in for a single session or begin at any point in the process. While dropping in is welcome, we do encourage a year long commitment. As with much of life, the amount of time and energy that you put into this process will maximize your return – in sum, “What you put into it is what you will get out of it.”
Our facilitators will be using the Reading Guide from the Get It Right website to lead our Community Read. Huge thanks to Dr. Johnson for making this resource available to all!
