Take Action

Check out the menu on the left, and pick an area of interest. Some action resources in this section were developed by UU Ministry for Earth and some are available from other organizations. These resources provide all liberal religious communities, especially those enrolled in the Green Sanctuary program of the UUA, with suggestions for taking action.

For some ideas to help you get started, here is a spreadsheet of environmental justice projects from recent Green Sanctuary program applications. You may search/sort this data base by the following key words: Community Outreach, Energy Conservation, Environmental Advocacy, Ethical Eating, Habitat Restoration, Micro-financing, Mountain Top Removal, and Water Rights. It also includes links to congregational websites where you can find more information on the projects. The list was compiled by Emily Kao, winter 2010 Environmental Intern in the Advocacy & Witness Washington office, based on information provided by Robin Nelson, UUA Green Sanctuary program manager in the office of Congregational Stewardship Services.

Click on "Earth Day 2011" for this year's extensive resources on water justice. Here is a list of Earth Day activities from registered congregations to give you some ideas (updated May 2). Registration is now closed.

Our Earth Day 2010 resources, and the activities and events reported by congregations, will continue to be useful. This is especially true for congregations participating in actvities associated with the Ethical Eating CSAI. Here is a list of events (updated on May 9, 2010) -- 153 congregations in thirty-eight states, plus four in Canada and one in Cuba, registered their events on the UUMFE website.

Please send us your pictures and success stories. If you are fluent in Facebook, post them yourself  to the UU Ministry for Earth facebook page.  Otherwise, send them by email to envirojustice @ uuministryforearth.org.  (Please send pictures in web-ready format, that is, smaller file size/lower resolution, if possible.)
