Write Here! Write Now! Letter-writing Advocacy, Spring 2021
UU Ministry for Earth, Unitarian Universalists for Social Justice (UUSJ) and UUs for Just Economic Community (UUJEC) are partnering for a Write here! Write Now! (WHWN) letter-writing advocacy campaign that will culminate in virtual meetings with US Capitol Hill staffers, the weeks of April 26-May 7. The general focus will be climate and food justice in agricultural policy, with advocacy focused on the Justice for Black Farmer’s Act and Climate Stewardship Act. Congregations are encouraged to schedule one or more letter-writing sessions on Sundays throughout April. Letters can either be written online or handwritten and scanned.
We encourage children, youth and young adults to participate, and for all involved to consider sending artwork in addition to written letters. Resulting artwork might be published online by the hosting organizations, with permission.
Join the Expert Opinion & WHWN Issue Briefing on Thursday, April 15 at 11am PT / 2pm ET, featuring Adam Zipkin, Counsel to United States Senator Cory Booker. Adam advises the Senator on issues related to the environment, energy, agriculture, and animal welfare. After hearing the expert opinion from guests, David Shilton of the UUSJ Environmental Action Team (EAT) and Pablo DeJesus, Executive Director, UUSJ, will delve into WHWN content specifics and answer program Q&A.
