Sacred People Sacred Earth Day of Action

On March 11, UU Ministry For Earth, UUs for Social Justice and Interfaith Power & Light, supported by many faith groups, will be joining the largest-ever multi-faith grassroots global Sacred People Sacred Earth Day of Action for climate justice, put forth by GreenFaith. 

The action will be livestreamed from the Interfaith Power & Light (DC.MD.NoVA) Facebook Page, and for those gathering in-person, Covid-safe protocol will be strictly adhered to. This action is co-hosted by UUMFE,  Interfaith Power & Light (DC.MD.NoVA),  First UU of New Orleans, Extinction Rebellion XRDC Buddhists and Meditators, EcoDharma DC. Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions Northern Virginia, UU Justice Florida, Gray Panthers Florida, Unitarian Universalist Association, UUA Side with Love, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), UUA @ United Nations Office, UUA Green Sanctuary Advisory Board, UUs for Social Justice (UUSJ),  UUs for a Just Economic Community (UUJEC)

9:00 am  – Start Set Up (volunteers appreciated)
10:30 – Opening Prayer and Remarks
11:00 – 11:10 – SOUND THE ALARM – Bring your bells and horns, Bring your own signs
11:10 – 11:30 – Interviews, discussion, meditation, Closing Prayer and celebration
11:30 -12 noon – Continue informally with discussion and interviews

UUs and partners will gather at the Washington Monument to sound the alarm with bells, gongs and horns, showing that people of faith are rising up for bold, compassionate solutions on climate change. Participants will urge elected representatives to heed the Ten Demands, and draw attention to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, this action will center Demand #4 to respect Indigenous rights by stopping the Line 3 tar sands pipeline, and support for just contributions to climate financing from wealthier countries (demand #9) by accelerating U.S. commitments to the Green Climate Fund

 3.  GREEN CLIMATE FUND UUSJ ACTION ALERT:  

UUSJ Action Alert LINK [UNDER CONSTRUCTION] where ALL can contact House & Senate Reps, Biden Administration AND ask that the US Catch-Up and Accelerate the US FAIR SHARE of the Green Climate Fund (GCF).  This is one of the Climate Finance mechanisms.  As part of the Paris Climate Agreement countries provide FUNDING AND TECHNOLOGY to developing countries for ADAPTION (cope) and MITIGATION (reduce).  Note:  UN Climate Finance Summit to be held 1 June 2021, where countries bring their proposed financing to the table.
