A week before President Biden took office, UUMFE signed on to the Presidential Plastics Action Plan, a major push backed by over 500 organizations to stop plastic pollution and create environmental justice. Join the national day of action on Thursday, January 21, Biden’s first full day of office, to ensure his administration takes meaningful action on this urgent issue.

More than 99% of plastic is created from chemicals sourced from fossil fuels, including an oversupply of fracked gas, which is spurring a global boom in new plastic production. That plastic is causing serious environmental problems at every step of its lifecycle, harming local communities with toxic air and water pollution. This Presidential Plastics Action Plan would help transition the current extractive and throwaway economy to a regenerative and inclusive one, creating jobs along the way.
