As part of the 2020 Spring for Change: A Season of Sacred Activism, UU Ministry for Earth encouraged congregations to create artwork of a local endangered or threatened species to bring to the UUA General Assembly in Providence, RI, June 24-28th. All of the species artwork created across the denomination was scheduled to be displayed throughout the UUA General Assembly and featured in a “Procession of the Species”. Because the 2020 General Assembly was online, the procession was not held as it had been in 2019 (photo, above).
Last year, a profoundly beautiful Procession of the Species occurred outside in a park nearby the Spokane Convention Center. This year, the procession will be incorporated into the Closing Ceremony in the main hall of the GA, on Saturday, June 27th!
This was a fabulous opportunity for multi-generational engagement on climate and ecological justice issues at your congregation, in a way that also builds unity across the denomination!
