If you are in the Washington area, join with other UUs to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day with a rally on The National Mall, Sunday, April 25, 2010, 11:00 am-7:00 pm.
UUs from congregations around the DC area will be joining the UU Legislative Ministry of Maryland and the Washington Interfaith Power and Light group. Meet at 2:00 pm on Sunday, between the Smithsonian Castle and the Natural History Museum, at about 10th Street. Look for the UU Banners.
The Earth Day Network is organizing a massive climate rally on The National Mall to demand that Congress pass strong environmental legislation. The Climate Rally will include speeches by the Reverend Jesse Jackson, film director James Cameron, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, Olympic gold medalist Billy Demong, producer Trudie Styler, author Margaret Atwood and others. The Rally will feature live music by Sting, John Legend, The Roots, Passion Pit, Bob Weir, Patrick Stump, Mavis Staples, Q-Tip, Booker T and many more!
This is an important time in the climate change and clean energy debate. Prospects for a bill seem brighter after the health care bill passed and President Obama has made overtures to Republicans on nuclear energy and off-shore drilling.
From its inception, Earth Day has had a tradition of being tied with real change--the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the creation of EPA. Let's make it climate change this year!
